I stumbled upon Russo's Cafe while trying to find a fast food alternative for lunch during my standard work week. I work in Creve Coeur/ Overland, so there is almost nothing besides fast food restaurants littering the left and right sides of Page Ave. French fries and cheeseburgers as far as the eye can see. Gross. I got really excited when I looked to my right and saw a catering company complete with a cafe attached to it. I Immediately made a sharp right turn, parked my car, and walked into Russo's full of anticipation for fresh, flavorful food. So I walked in and looked at the menu that was hung on the wall literally right next to the door. Odd placement, but okay. I looked it over for a few minutes, and slowly my anticipation gave way to disappointment. I guess I was expecting something a little inventive than their standard menu of wraps, salads, and sandwiches- all of which could be found on virtually any lunch menu on any restaurant in St. Louis. But hey, it's fresh and not fried- I can't complain. I ordered the BLTT wrap: Bacon, Lettuce, Turkey, and Tomato all jammed into a wrap. I asked for plain mayo instead of the italian mayo with which this is served (I was told that they do not have plain mayo in the kitchen area and that I would have to grab some mayonnaise packets by the drink area) and without tomato. Unfortunately, my wrap came with the controversial Italian mayo and tomato. Yuck. Once I scrapped off the mayo and removed the tomato, it was pretty decent. I feel like i could build my own sandwich at Subway for $7 (including chips and a drink)- same price as the run-of-the-mill wrap. I might, a really small "might", be returning to Russo's to try a salad. If I do, I'll let you all know how it turns out.
